A certificate of merit for Basyl (ShA) in three days´ eventing

Basyl

On August 15, 2009, Basyl took part in his second competition at “Amateur Elite” level in Mourmelon le Grand (51410). Basyl performed a dressage that attracted a great deal of attention only missing first place by 4 points and was therefore ideally placed after the first phase. He then went on to the show-jumping and finished on time and without any faults, thus consolidating his ranking. Under the saddle of Emilie Audibert, he performed well in the cross-country phase, without putting himself into difficulty, as the heat significantly increased the risks of accident. Overall, he finished 4th, which was a suitable reward for Basyl and his team who believes in his potential and is helping him to progress admirably. It is an extremely valuable result for this stallion with his lovely character which adds to the demonstration of the versatility of the breed.

Jean-Claude Gauthier, his trainer, commented that this result shows that Basyl has made real progress in the highly demanding discipline of three day eventing. Indeed, last winter's basic training in dressage has produced the desired effect and Basyl now consistently achieves very good marks. More recently, Basyl has successfully followed a specific training programme to improve his control during jumping. Moreover, his agility and self-control, rather than his pure speed in the gallop, help him to be a brave competitor in cross-country.

Basyl is today the only Shagya Arabian who regularly competes at high amateur level in France, proving the versatility of the breed. As proud owners wishing to demonstrate the qualities of the breed, we acknowledge the skills and determination brought to bear by his rider and trainer to confirm and then develop Basyl’s potential and qualities. We thank them and encourage them to continue what they have begun so well.

Basyl (ShA) finishes his three-day eventing season on the podium

On October 4th, 2009, Basyl took part in his fourth competition at “Amateur Elite” level in Brazey en Plaine (21470). Basyl performed satisfactorily in dressage, but he was awarded a lower score than usual. He followed up with an excellent cross-country race, without faults and within the allotted time, even if his rider Emilie had to make a particular effort to keep him on the track. He confirmed his bravery when jumping over solid obstacles and showed that the cross-country race is, without any doubt, his favorite discipline. Ranking fourth among “Pro 2” and “Amateur Elite” competitors after these two tests, Basyl finished his show-jumping very well, within time and with only one fault. Thanks to his outstanding endurance, he had resources enough to confirm his agility and look his best in the final phase. His overall performance was rewarded by a first podium, seven weeks after his first placing in a competition of this level. He thus finishes second behind the champions of Burgundy!

This event rounds off a season which saw Basyl responding to his owners’, trainer’s and rider’s expectations. He has done well at high national amateur level in France thanks to his natural skills and to the work of his whole team. We will take time during the winter break to prepare a new challenge for the season in which he will reach the age of ten. Basyl is today a remarkable representative of the breed and regularly shows his versatility. His paces, his agility when jumping over obstacles, his endurance and his character are assets which he no doubt will transmit to his pure and cross-bred descendants. Please let us know if you might be interested! We, the owners, once again wish to thank the rider and the trainer for their equestrian skills and the professionalism they deploy in tandem with a respectful human approach that contributes towards creating a very positive image of the “Pond Stables”.
